Last night I finally saw Spiderman 3. I am due a post, so I think I will just do a bit of thinking out loud. Oh, where to begin?
I had very high expectations for this movie. I had heard from several Spidey enthusiasts and critics that this was definitely the best of all the Spiderman movies thus far. Unfortunately, in some ways I was pretty disappointed. Overall, it was a good movie, and I liked it better than Number Two, but there were several things that bothered me too much for me to say I loved it.
For starters, there were too many villians, too many conflicts. It seemed like Venom barely had any time to appear, kill a few people and then be defeated. And I'm sorry, but Sandman was just weak. Pick one, make it a good one, and spend some time developing him! Also, I appreciate all the plot twists - it gives you a lot to think about - but it was really a lot to have to untangle the love difficulties between Peter, Harry, MJ and the random Gwen Stacy, the competition for the staff photography position, and the struggles of Flint Marko.
Somebody explain to me how in the world that Demolecularizing Testing Compound was left wide open? What did the bell have to do with anything? Why wasn't there any blood? Sure, I don't really want to see it, but it was pretty unrealistic. And seeing Mary Jane suspended hundreds of feet above concrete for the thousandth time is getting a little old. We're going to stop here before I am tempted to rant about what a terrible actor Tobey Maguire is and how dumb he looked when he was under the influence of the symbiote. :-)
I did enjoy several of the artistic touches. For example, the swirling sand as we see the creation of Sandman and the different black and white shots as we explore what could have happened the day Uncle Ben was killed.
Let's move on to Harry. Okay, I cried throughout this whole movie. I pretty much never stopped crying. I cried at the beginning when we first see Harry, I cried when he woke up without his memory, I cried when he and Spiderman finally join forces to fight together at the end, and all places in between. I did a lot of crying on the part of Harry. He reminded me a lot of Anakin Skywalker....but never mind about that. Definitely my favorite character (besides Ursula Ditkovitch), though the internal voices he was battling were a little freakish. He is so fabulous at being sinister - such as the scenes of him and Peter in the café and the shot of him at the theatre when Peter is in the front row - way better than Tobey Maguire's attempt at evilness. :-)
In conclusion, this movie had good a good message, and neatly wrapped up the Spiderman Trilogy, though more movies may be in the future. The fight scenes were cool, and we finally figure out once and for all what happened to Uncle Ben.

Toby Maguire is NOT a bad actor and there are NOT to many villens! I was to scared to actually cry during most of the movie but I was definently sad.
