"Penelope," starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy (2008)

So, I arranged to see this movie with a friend on Saturday. It was awesome! I had some good recommendations, and they turned out to be right on. It's not the best movie ever, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to buying it. I'd give it about 7.5 out of 10.

I couldn't figure out why the heck all the guys were running away from Penelope - yeah she has a slightly strange nose, but it was NOT bad, she's still very pretty. Sheesh. Ricci was a little annoying, like in the scene where she begs Max to marry her, but very believable. James McAvoy was the best part of the movie - my goodness he is good looking! Whew, Middle School Moment. lol. It actually took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize he was Mr. Tumnus. I knew I had seen him somewhere.

Same for Simon Woods, who plays Edward Vanderman. It was driving me crazy. I had to look it up to find it: tada, Pride and Prejudice's Mr. Bingley.

Catherine O'Hara, Reese Witherspoon and Peter Dinklage were likewise recognized, though it took me much less time to place these folks.

Some of the plot was confusing, and not well explained, like the part about her parents faking her death and the reason they couldn't do plastic surgery on her nose. What artery was that again?

There was a small and very silent crowd watching with us. They didn't laugh once - not even at "Edward, don't lick Max!" I felt quite silly laughing, even quietly, but some of those lines were really funny! Ope - they did laugh once. At the end they all applauded, which was weird. I've rarely been in a theatre of people who applauded a movie. I guess they did like it.

Hope you guys have a good Palm Sunday. I'm hoping to avoid the Easter Egg Hunt, if possible. :-) It was a weird morning, as all the youth are gone to ski in Colorado. There were like 8 of us High Schoolers. HA! And that's normal at FCC. How time changes things. The fire alarm went off after church let out. It was just an accident, but everyone just stood there talking. I thought am I the only person remotely concerned about finding out if there's a real fire? Hope there never is one. Personally I'd rather just head for the nearest exit in a calm and orderly fashion and be safe than sorry. :-)

Skiing? And you stayed behind?? What were you thinking!

Better calm and orderly than the alternative. Count your blessings. 92351. Didn't get crushed underfoot

I don't think I would like skiing. It looks fast and hard and cold, not a good combination for me.

The fire alarm incident reminded me of something that happened at school. The school decided to have a crazy hair day and a fire drill on the same day. While the fire alarm was going off inside the school, my friend Sherman and another girl decide to stay inside the school and continue to straighten his hair as they were previously were doing. They heard the alarm, but just didn't care. His hair came before some stupid drill. lol.
