Hushed whispers and shaky giggles
echoed through the black hallways.
Shhhh, shhhhh.
Suddenly everyone lurches forward
and it's too late to dwell on the fact
that your memory has just been wiped
clean by little green aliens and you
have no idea what you are doing or
where you are going. Just follow the
bobbing heads in front of you.
*Gulp*
Now you are standing still again, but
there is no more whispering. Refulgent
lights have frozen time and seem to
illuminate sound waves in incandescent
maroon.

I am standing on the stage of Covenant,
a local church. This is my choir concert,
the climax of our fall semester. I wasn't
nervous, as you might infer from the
description, but it didn't really seem....
R E A L
It all went pretty well. I have definitely
sung better in my life, but you could say
that most of the time. Besides the pieces
with the entire choir [that's a cool rhyme],
I sang two songs with a ladies ensemble
of twelve members, and one with a ladies
sextet. That means six girls.
Jesus Our Treasure, the sextet song,
went fairly well, but it could really have
been better. What caused this? Hmmm.
Two of them didn't show up for dress
rehearsal, the one time we got to run the
song with microfonos, and that makes a
difference, and we never rehearsed with
the special pianist they flew in from
Little Rock, who did not play the music
quite as written. Bummer. It didn't crash or
anything, it just could've been awesomer.
We ended the concert in the aisles holding
candles, real wax candles that didn't catch
anything on fire, believe it or not.
Afterwards we all hit the dressing rooms
to rid ourselves of our formals and panty
hose which we had been wearing for
precisely nine point five hours. A cookie
and punch reception naturally followed,
where we were reunited with former choir
members now graduated. It was so good
to see my friends from last spring!
Now you think we went home and went
to sleep. Haha. No. We went to IHOP where
we proceeded to make merry, in the most
uncivilized fashion, and had a very very
jolly time and didn't get home till almost
two a.m.
I looked around the table, many times
lengthened, where sat good friends, now
scattered to Denton and Waco and
Norman and Columbia, and thought that
it should go on forever like this. Sadly,
it could not. The coach must inevitably
turn back into a pumpkin, and heaven
knows when I will sit again with these
friends.
I could've danced all night....
---
Now I sit here typing and the world is
white once again with powdery snow.
I had a makeup ballet session this morning,
and am now sucking on a peppermint log
after a delicious shower. Happy three
days till Christmas, everybody.
