The Babysitter's Prayer

I watch her, a princess,
the belle of the ball;
She spins, and she twirls,
and then she falls.
So I go to her side,
and I help her to stand;
And with a hug and a kiss,
she's a princess again.

I watch him, he climbs,
then he reaches the top;
He turns, and he looks,
and then he stops.
So I come up behind,
and take his hand in mine;
And with my reassurance,
he conquers the slide.

For just a few moments,
They're in my care;
And for those brief moments,
I lift up a prayer.

Lord, help me to be
Your witness to them;
While I make them a sandwich,
Or when I tuck them in.

And Lord, I pray please,
Don't let me forget;
The songs, and the blocks,
And the new fighter jets.

The hugs and the tickles,
And the Candyland games;
The giggles, the warmth,
When they first lisp my name.

The movies,the corndogs,
The walks to the park;
The comfort of snuggling,
When they're scared of the dark.

Bless them, and keep them, Lord,
Through all of their days;
Instruct them, and teach them,
In all of Your ways.

So ten years from now,
When they're in my place;
They'll look back and remember,
Your love and Your grace

Displayed in my life,
For the whole world to see;
And to reach them, I pray,
You could somehow use me.
