Jell-O

Yesterday was the long awaited Jell-O Bash at the church. We had plasticked off the lawn and covered it with 400 gallons of Jell-O, then set up a Slip’N’Slide, Jell-O eating contest, Jell-O war, relay races, etc. It was a ton of fun! My team was smokin’.

The thing was, with 100+ kids running around….someone’s bound to get hurt. The inevitable finally happened: One of the eighth graders, Ashley was pushed too hard. She fell on her neck. She was moving her arms and legs, but she couldn’t respond to her mother’s cries, and the doctor we’d stationed there looked worried. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Fifteen minutes later, Tyler, one of the seniors (incidentally the same one that tackled me!) slid down the Slip’N’Slide and found the one rock we’d missed and ripped his knee open. He went reluctantly to the ER, but he drove himself.

We found out this morning that Ashley had sprained her neck and strained some ligaments, minor concussion. Thank God it was nothing worse! Tyler had eight stitches.

Other than that, it was a great success.

After I had a lightning-quick shower, we raced off to the theatre for more Mame. Joy.

JELL-O FAQ'S
In 1845 Peter Cooper developed the first patented gelatin desert. In 1897 Pearle Wait made it a totally prepackaged and sugary desert. His wife named it Jell-O. The original flavors were Strawberry, Rasberry, Orange, and Lemon. In 1899 he sold it to Orator Woodward for $450. It is owned by Kraft Foods today.
